Michigan’s 2016 recruiting class has been up and down over the past 6 months thanks to a huge commitment and decommitment from Tyus Battle. However, the staff was able to rebound and a three star guard out of Columbus (sound familiar?) in Pickerington (OH) G Ibi Watson and could be on their way to landing their #1 target.
Watson is the 3rd commit of the class, which has at least one spot left, two if the staff is willing to bet on attrition. And if a certain duo is willing to commit (PG Cassius Winston and SF Miles Bridges), they’ll make that bet all day long. However, I only see them landing one more guy in this class and holding that last spot for 2017.
Check out my latest 2016 Michigan basketball best guess recruiting class:
1. C: Jon Teske, 6’11” 210lbs. Medina, OH (Medina HS)
The big man dominates at the high school level thanks to being several inches taller than the rest of the competition. His height, length, shot blocking ability, and outside shooting should make him a great player in Beilein\’s system. However, he will have to add some muscle to his frame before being able to perform at his peak level at Michigan.
- Commitment Date: August 7th, 2014

2. C: Austin Davis, 6’10” 250lbs. Onsted, MI (Onsted)*
Davis is an old school, blue collar big man that has the size and length to be a good rebounder and paint presence at the next level. While he’s not the most explosive or dominant big man out there, he does the little stuff that wins games like getting boards on both ends of the court, finishing inside and playing solid defense. Look for him to re-classify to 2017 as he’s likely to take a prep year.

3. G: Ibi Watson, 6’4” 180lbs. Columbus, OH (Pickerington Central)
Watson is a versatile guard that has the ability to play the point and the two in Michigan’s system but with the staff going hard at PG Cassius Winston, shooting guard looks like the likely landing spot. Either way, the Wolverines have themselves another playmaker in the back court that has the skills to be a very good college player.

4. PG Cassius Winston, 6’0” 165lbs. Detroit, MI (Jesuit)
Winston is the top target on the board at the biggest position of need, and luckily, it looks like he’s starting to favor the Wolverines. According to The Wolverine crew, he could be swaying towards the Maize and Blue thanks to their system, roster talent, and his relationship with Derrick Walton ($). If he jumps on board after/during his official visit, it would give the staff a nice piece to make a run at his good friend and five star small forward Miles Bridges. Though, I believe Winston will be the last commit in this class.
