What to Expect When You’re Expecting: December 16th-19th

As we move into the holiday dead period, Michigan’s 2016 recruiting class is expected to have some huge changes. That includes two of their top early enrollee targets announcing their commitments this week and another top target expected to make a decision this week as well. But who will they pick? That is the biggest question at the moment.

Here is the latest on each:

LB Devin Bush Jr

Since about July 4th, Michigan fans have been waiting for the Flanagan star to commit to Michigan and now he has set his decision date for this Wednesday (16th). Well, some believe UM fans may wish he was waiting a little longer as it’s no longer a foregone conclusion that he will decide for the Wolverines.

While myself, the crew at The Wolverine and just about every other Michigan analyst still believes he’ll choose Michigan, 247Sports’ Josh Newberg is hearing that Bush Jr will pledge to his father’s alma mater, Florida State ($) and has put in his Crystal Ball prediction for him to do so.

So, before the official announcement comes out, it’s basically a matter of who you trust the most at this point.

Michigan analysts seem to believe it will be UM while Florida State people believe it will be FSU. It also seems like the UM coaching staff is feeling good about their chances as well:

Though the coaches are feeling good, out of the three recruits expected to announce this week, Bush Jr is the one looks to be the most likely to choose elsewhere.

RB Kareem Walker

While my source has been in on everything with Walker since his official visit to Michigan back in October and continues to firmly believe that he will end up committing to UM on Thursday (17th). I believe that as well but there have been a lot of people who have been freaking out with the rumors starting to come out that Florida State (or others) could end up landing his pledge instead.

Well, if you don’t trust my source, according to just about every analyst, Michigan is still the team to beat.

247Sports’ Steve Wiltfong said he hasn’t heard anything to suggest it won’t be UM ($) while his co-worker, Josh Newberg, isn’t ready to flip his commit from Michigan just yet, though suggests both FSU and Alabama are possible options ($). Add that along with just about every UM analyst sticking with the Wolverines here and it’s safe to say a commitment elsewhere would be a pretty big shocker to most, except New Jersey recruiting reporter Todderick Hunt.

WR Keyshawn Young

As for a 3rd announcement this week, the Miami Senior standout was expected to make a decision but it’s unknown if anything has changed after Michigan added their 3rd receiver commit of the class over the weekend (Nate Johnson). I’m still trying to do some digging to see if anything has changed but, if it hasn’t, things look very good here.

So, be ready for a crazy week, Michigan fans. It could be a very memorable one or a big punch to the gut. While I’m leaning towards a memorable one, I’d always recommend remaining cautious.

Remember: Recruiting is crazy and players can change their minds at any time. But it’s also safe to say that if Michigan misses on Bush Jr and/or Walker, that will be a tough blow to this class as they are both very high on the staff’s board.
