So, How Was It?: UNLV Game Visitors Update

Michigan had a nice performance on and off the field on Saturday as they beat UNLV and hosted several top recruiting targets, including two big time official visitors and a senior to watch closely moving forward:

2016 OLB Caleb Kelly

Arguably Michigan’s top BUCK linebacker target on the board, Caleb Kelly, made his way to Ann Arbor for his official visit. And though it was the first of five (normally a bad sign), Michigan looks to have made a nice impact on his recruitment.

According to Wolverine247’s Steve Lorenz, Michigan “helped themselves” in their pursuit of Kelly thanks to the good chance at immediate playing time ($).

It’s been well known that Michigan and Oklahoma are at the top of his list and after speaking with OU sources, they are not as confident as most about Kelly heading to Norman. If the staff was able to impress with the immediate playing time and his mom on the program, University and city, there’s a good chance the Wolverines land the top player in California.

2016 DT Keyshon Camp

Camp was the other official visitor taking in the 2nd win of the Harbaugh era and, though he’s committed to USC, looks to be a real option to be a part of this class thanks to a former teammate on the roster, according to The Wolverine’s Tim Sullivan ($):

Camp really enjoyed yesterday’s game, but it was the post-game festivities that probably had a bigger impact on him. He got to reconnect with his close friend Rueben Jones, now a freshman defensive end/Buck LB at Michigan, and the relationship between those two is one of the biggest factors in luring Camp away from his current commitment to USC.”

With Michigan in need of more defensive lineman in this class, especially on the interior, expect the coaching staff to really take a run at Camp after a successful visit. And with a big factor like Jones in their hand, they may have a real shot at flipping him from the Trojans.

2016 WR Donnie Corley

While most people were wondering about the official visitors, it was a “surprise” top target that is the one monitor closely as Corley did indeed make his way to Ann Arbor to watch the game with good friend and teammate 2016 ATH Armani Posey.

This is a pretty significant visit since there were rumors about his decision timeline possibly ending soon after his MSU official last weekend. With Corley taking an unofficial and, according to Wolverine247’s Steve Lorenz, likely taking an official as well ($), Michigan may be even more of a contender than ever before. Add in his friendship with Posey, who I’ll have more on in a second, and the winds may quickly be changing here. I’m still predicting MSU in the end but I’m getting closer and closer to adding Corley to my next Best Guess Recruiting Class.

2016 ATH Armani Posey

Speaking of Posey, the Detroit King standout and do-it-all star is a name to watch very closely. He is arguably the most underrated player in the Midwest as he only holds one offer and it’s from Davenport. If you don’t know where that is:

While it’s a completely shocker to most Michigan/Detroit high school football reporters as to the fact that he only holds one offer and it’s from a small school like that, the Wolverines are in great shape (obviously) if an offer was extended thanks to Durkin’s defense and the game day feel:

(I) Iike how Coach Durkin (has the) defense playing at a high level. The Michigan program definitely has a different feel this year.”

As for the staff’s interest, they did not give him a timeframe for an offer but they are monitoring him closely as they “love his versatility and athleticism”.

Like Caleb Kelly, Posey has that athleticism and size that the staff is craving on defense, especially at linebacker/safety. Add in his relationship with Corley and his recruitment could be very interesting down the stretch. If the staff continues to show love and Posey continues to be one of the top players in the state, I could definitely see Michigan extend an offer and land one of the biggest steals of the class.

2017 TE Jimmy Jaggers

As for another name to watch closely, top junior tight end target, Jimmy Jaggers, made his 2nd visit to Michigan and seemed to love everything it:

It was really good! Meeting the coaches was a huge thing for me this trip and I was able to talk to both coach Harbaugh’s for a solid amount of time to truly get to know the offense and where I fit”,

Most Michigan fans have wondered when the tight end targets would start to notice Harbaugh’s love for the position, the importance of it in his offense and the play of standout Jake Butt. Well, Jaggers saw all of that and is a big fan:

I love it. It’s always nice to know that a schools offensive scheme is going to fit for you.”

Though it’s very early in his recruitment and several west coast schools like Stanford, USC and Washington are teams to watch, I believe Michigan is in great shape here. And if I’m right and he ends up choosing the Wolverines, it’ll be the return of Fish-tradomus as I’ve had Jaggers in my 2017 BGRC since day one.
