New Michigan Man: S J’Marick Woods Commits

The Wolverines were expected to have a really nice run on the recruiting trail this week and, just like that, they have two new additions to the 2017 class. First it was ATH AJ Dillon and now the staff adds another commitment as Florence (AL) S J’Marick Woods has committed to Michigan.

Woods is one of the biggest safeties in the class. At 6’3″+, he has the size, length and athleticism to be a real game changer on the backend of the defense. Though he’s still a bit raw as a cover man, he can play the centerfield position with the best of them thanks to that length and ball hawking ability. Something every defensive coordinator wants and needs.

As for his recruitment, Woods received his first offer from Michigan and looked like a good possibility to end up in this class. However, being from SEC country, Alabama specifically, the in-state/conference powers were expected to step up and sway him away from the Wolverines. But that didn’t happen and the long, strong relationship that was built between the staff and Woods paid off handsomely in the end for both parties.

  • Height: 6’3”
  • Weight: 205lbs
  • Hometown (School): Florence, AL (Florence)
  • Notable Offers: Florida, Tennessee, Mississippi State, Penn State, Virginia Tech
  • Rankings: Scout (4*, #278 overall) – Rivals (3*, #31 S) – 247Sports (3*, #26 S) – ESPN (3*, #286 overall)

As for the Rest of the Class: Woods is the 8th overall commit, the 2nd defensive back commitment in this class and the 1st out of Alabama. But he won’t be the last DB. Michigan is heavily pursuing S AJ Harris, CB Amir Reip, ATH Ambry Thomas, CB Deommodore Lenoir and DB Jaylen Kelly-Powell.
