New Michigan Man: OG Micah Mazzccua Commits to Michigan

Since Jim Harbaugh took over the Michigan program, he and his coaching staff have been trying hard to break into St. Frances Academy in Baltimore. After finally landing its first commitment in LB Osman Savage, it looked like the door could officially be open. And that definitely looks to be the case as 2020 St. Frances Academy (MD) OG Micah Mazzccua has also committed to Michigan.

Commitment

Scouting Report

Mazzccua is a mauling offensive guard. He uses his large frame and quick first step to get out into space and drive his targets off line or into the dirt. He’s the type of lineman that plays until the end of the whistle, which is exactly what you want out of your guards. Though he’s still has a ways to go like most high school lineman, he’s got all of the physical tools and frame you want. Add in him playing at an elite high school program and he’s a guy that every coaching staff would be excited to develop.

Recruitment

As previously mentioned, Michigan has been trying to crack into St. Frances Academy for a long time now. But with Mazzccua, his time on the Michigan recruiting front was a short prior to his decision.

With only a couple Power Five offers in hand, Mazzccua received his offer from Michigan in late January when the staff went out to Baltimore and offered 14 players at St. Frances. That was followed up by a large group from the school heading to Ann Arbor for an unofficial visit in mid- February. And things clearly couldn’t have gone any better for Mazzccua as he committed to the Wolverines just a week later, becoming the 7th commitment of the 2020 class.

Highlights

As for the Rest of the Class

Mazzccua is the 7th overall commitment, the first offensive line commit, and the 2nd commitment out of Maryland. As the second get out of St. Frances Academy, he may not be the last as the staff looks to be in really good with RB Blake Corum and CB Luke Hill. Other St. Frances names to watch includes DE Demon Clowney, OT Michael Stratham, and 2021 LB Aaron Willis.

As for 2020 offensive line recruiting, OT Andrew Gentry, OG Justin Rogers, OT Zak Zinter, OL Michael Carmody, OT Tosh Baker, and OG Geirean Hatchett are all names to remember.
