New Michigan Man: LB Osman Savage Commits to Michigan

Two of the bigger needs in the 2020 class for Michigan were adding an impactful linebacker haul and to start getting into the DMV region more. Well, the staff is off to a hot start on both ends as 2020 four-star St. Frances Academy (MD) LB Osman Savage has committed to Michigan.

Scouting Report

Savage is not only one of the best names in the class but he’s also one of the most pure WILL linebackers in the class as well. He’s a stout, smart linebacker that can close quickly, can read the offense quickly, and has the instincts to make plays in both the run and pass game. He still has plenty of room to grow but has the frame you want in a linebacker and the mindset to go with it. He should fit into Don Brown’s defense very well.

Recruitment

For the hardcore Michigan recruiting fans, Savage is a decently known name. He’s been a target for the coaching staff since his freshmen year where he made an appearance at a Satellite Camp and was already seen as a future big-time recruit at either linebacker or running back. And he’s continued to live up to that hype.

Savage received his offer from Jim Harbaugh back in October of 2017, just two months into his high school career. That offer clearly resonated with the two-way standout as he made multiple visits to Ann Arbor, including for the 2018 BBQ at the Big House. But it looked to be the visit to St. Frances Academy by the coaching staff that pushed it over the line.

Savage committed to Michigan during that visit and becomes the 6th member of the Wolverine’s 2020 class.

Highlights

As for the Rest of the Class

Savage is the 6th overall commitment, the 2nd linebacker, and the first out of Maryland. But he may not be the last as Michigan is making a big push for the DMV/Northeast region including OT Zak Zinter, DE Antwaun Powell, S Malcolm Green, LB Ethan West, DE Bryan Bresee, TE Lukas Ungar, and Savage’s teammate, WR Traeshon Holden, to name a few.

Some linebackers to watch in this class include West, VLB Kalel Mullings, OLB/DE Phillip Webb, LB Jaheim Thomas, and LB Nikhai Hill-Green.
