Michigan Takes Care of Texas Southern, Moves onto 2nd Round

After knocking off Mt. St. Mary’s in the First Four game, #16 seed Texas Southern went into the first round matchup with Michigan feeling confident. But that didn’t feeling was squashed throughout the game as the #1 seed Wolverines controlled play throughout even though they didn’t play perfect.

Michigan was led by Mike Smith and Hunter Dickinson, who received one of the worst flagrant foul calls in basketball history in the 2nd half. That is when the game started to get a bit more interesting as the refs started really leaning into the ticky tack calls. But it wasn’t enough for a poor shooting Texas Southern team as Michigan cruised to a 16 point first round win over a 16 seed.

In the 2nd round, Michigan will meet #8 seed LSU on Monday night at 7:10pm. This is one of the most anticipated games of the round as the Tigers were a cinderella pick by many and as we’ve seen, top seeds are going down left and right in this tournament. Michigan will need big games from its top three players as well as a showing from 1-2 of the bench gang to move onto the Sweet 16.
