Michigan Quickly Moves into Top 5 for Stepp After Visit, Offer

Heading into his first visit to Michigan, 2018 Cathedral (IN) RB Markese Stepp let me know that he wasn’t going into his trip expecting an offer from the staff but just wanted to get a better feel for the entire program.

“No, (we haven’t talked about an offer) but we will see what happens though. They just offered an RB from Cali (TJ Pledger) so I’m hoping the same happens but that’s not what I’m going up there for even though it would be great if they did. Im just trying to get a good look and feel from the staff and the university. Also to build a relationship with them as well.”

Though Stepp (6’0” 210lbs) only spent a couple hours on campus for his first trip, he was able to see everything he wanted and start to build those relationships he wanted.

“It was great man, one of my best visits. The coaches, facilities, academics, and campus was just great.” he said about his trip. “They sold me on the team and how it is pretty much one big family. Coach Wheatley, I got to go out to lunch with him and some other coaches and it felt like we were one big family.”

His trip helped open his eyes to Michigan even more and before he left town, the staff extended the offer he was hoping for all along:

With his offer in hand and the visit in the books, Stepp let me know that, though he isn’t planning on making a decision until after his junior season, Michigan is now in his top 5 schools.

At this point, Notre Dame has all of the 247Sports Crystal Ball predictions as they’re the in-state program who has received multiple visits and extended their offer back in February. However, Michigan has done great in Indiana in recent history and Stepp could be a top target for the staff throughout the cycle.
