Malzone Interview Part Two: Brother Rice QB Alex Malzone

In part one of our two part interview on 2015 Michigan QB commit Alex Malzone we spoke with Brother Rice offensive coordinator Coach Richard Popp. For part two, we interviewed the man himself. We asked Alex about learning from Coach Popp, preparing for his senior season and a quick hitter on his trip to the BBQ at the Big House. Enjoy!

@MGoFish: What are a couple things you\’ve learned from Coach Popp about being a successful quarterback?

Alex: I\’ve learned all the great mechanical things to become a great quarterback. Especially going back and forth between football and baseball. He always has a positive mindset and influences me to get better by just being around him.

@MGoFish: Outside of the local and national camps (SMSB, The Elite 11, and The Opening), what are you doing to prepare for the 2014 season?

Alex: I\’ve just been working with Coach Popp at practice and working with my receivers. We\’ve had all our workouts, 7 on 7s, and mini camps. I\’ve just tried to improve my game for my last season with Brother Rice.

@MGoFish: What is one thing you want to improve on as a passer and a leader going into your senior year?

Alex: I would definitely like to become more comfortable in the pocket. I feel like I\’m comfortable but can still get better. As a leader I would like to be more vocal to my team showing my passion for the team, especially my teammates that don\’t get the chance to play much.

@MGoFish: In terms of recruiting, how was the BBQ and who were some of the main guys you were recruiting?

Alex: I love visiting Michigan every time I do because I always enjoy it. The coaches are doing a great job recruiting and trying to bring back Michigan football. The guys that I was recruiting were Mike Weber, Marcus Lewis, Darian Roseboro, Ben Bredeson, and Clark Yarbrough.

@MGoFish: What will it take for Brother Rice to win a 4th consecutive State Championship in 2014?

Alex: We definitely have the players and coaches to do it. We need to come together like we have the past 3 years. I would enjoy going out to practice every day and I feel like it will be like that again this year. We have a target on our back but we\’re ready for the challenge.
