Michigan in the Top Five for West Coast Standout

Michigan’s 2017 defensive end recruiting board is long and full of elite targets from coast to coast. However, there may not be a name on that list is more wanted by the coaching staff than Luther Burbank (CA) DE DJ Johnson.

I was able to catch up with Johnson to quickly talk about his recruitment and his interest in Michigan.

“Everything has been going great.” Johnson said. “(The Michigan staff) make sure that I’m getting all the love that they can give.”

Without speaking with coaches or insiders in the program, it’s easy to know how important a recruit is to a staff by which coaches are handling the recruitment. Well, with Michigan, there isn’t just one.

“All of the defensive coaches and (Jim) Harbaugh” are recruiting the talented defensive end. As for where the Wolverines sit with Johnson early on, “Michigan is a top five (school) for me”.

Johnson let me know that though he’s unable to make it to Ann Arbor for the spring game, he does plan on taking an official visit to UM this fall.
