After receiving Crystal Ball powers from 247Sports, I wanted to only submit a prediction when I not only felt confident but when there’s also evidence to back up that feeling. And when it comes to a player that is as big of a national target as 2017 Cass Tech (MI) WR Donovan Peoples-Jones, plenty of evidence is needed.
DPJ has been the top target on Michigan’s board for most of the cycle and for good reason. He’s an elite talent and the best overall athlete in the class. He also happens to go to UM’s biggest pipeline high school, Cass Tech, so this was a no brainer for the staff.
Just about every program in the country is coming after Peoples-Jones, including Florida, Alabama and Ohio State, which makes a prediction much tougher. However, the latest news on DPJ has me feeling as good as ever about Michigan’s chances.
First reported by The Wolverine’s Brandon Brown, Peoples-Jones took a “mind-blowing visit” to Ann Arbor last week ($). The visit was focused around the medical school and speaking with medical professionals. Because of it, UM may be the outright favorite moving forward.
To back that up, Wolverine247’s Steve Lorenz was able to confirm Peoples-Jones’ not only visiting Michigan’s medical school but also confirming the SnapChat stories and tweets showing DPJ shadowing at the medical school ($).
When you add in the fact that, according to 247Sports’ Steve Wiltfong, Peoples-Jones is an outstanding student and is an aspiring orthopedic surgeon like his father (who graduated from Michigan), all signs are pointing to the Wolverines and their academic possibilities at this point.
So, with all of that plus his fit in Michigan’s offense and the staff prioritizing him on the same level as Rashan Gary, I have put in my prediction for Donovan Peoples-Jones to Michigan.
