Cooper Calls his Michigan Offer “Very Big”

Game breaking speed and home run hitting ability is something the Michigan coaching staff is desperately looking to add in the 2016 class after seeing the lack of speed during the spring game. Which is why their latest offered receiver, Devaughn Cooper, looks to be a top target on the board.

I shared a couple messages with Cooper and he let me know this offer was “very big” and that while he isn’t very familiar with the Wolverines, he’s “plan(s) to gain a relationship and get a better understanding of each coach individually”.

As far as speaking with his teammate and fellow Michigan offer holder OT Alex Akingbulu, he said “He congratulated me on the offer and no we haven’t (spoken) yet but we will maybe talk about it another time”. In terms of the Narbonne duo playing together in college, “that is an awesome opportunity and definitely a possibility”.

Watching his highlights, you can see why the staff offered him. He has elite, track running type speed and quickness, great hands, elusiveness and the toughness to go over the middle. That is why it’s odd to see his offer list so short at the moment (Michigan, Kansas, Washington State and Arizona).

After speaking with him, I believe Michigan has a very good shot in this race, especially when adding in his current offer sheet. However, they’ll likely need to build that relationship up quickly because I don’t believe Cooper will remain a secret for long and, if the local west coast teams come calling, it could be tough to land him.
