2016 Freshmen Scouting Report: Ben Bredeson

To kick off the official start to the 2016 Michigan football fall camp, we’ve broken down each incoming freshmen football signee. That includes their scouting report, 2016 season prediction as well as a quote from one of their positional coaches.

Ben Bredeson, Hartland (WI) Arrowhead

  • Position: Offensive Lineman
  • Height/Weight: 6’5” 295lbs
  • Commitment Date: June 17th, 2015

Scouting Report: Bredeson was one of the highest rated recruits in the class and looks to be a perfect fit for the Michigan offense. His size, technical ability and versatility is what makes him a prototypical offensive line prospect. He plays with correct pad level and is extremely aggressive at the point of attack, which should have Tim Drevno excited.

True Freshmen Projection: Being a top rated prospect almost always means the chance to play right away is there. But Bredeson has plenty of work to do to see the field his freshmen year. Michigan returns 4 starters on the offensive line and already has their future left tackle in place. The best chance for Bredeson to avoid the redshirt and contribute this fall may be as a 6th lineman, similar to Grant Newsome last season. It will all come down to his performance in camp. I’m leaning towards him proving his worth and becoming that 6th lineman at one point this fall.

Tim Drevno Quote: Ben is a young man that very good initial quickness. He plays with power. He plays with strength and does a great job setting the anchor on pass blocking. Ben is a really athletic offensive lineman that can redirect at the second level. He plays with a lot of physicality and is a guy that can hold point especially on a three technique coming off the ball. Ben is very athletic and plays the game with great passion. He is very mature and intelligent and has an extremely bright future. He is a Michigan type of man that you’d like in the program.
