Today Michigan added a bit of a surprise commitment as Ann Arbor Pioneer RB Drake Johnson has accepted a scholarship offer right after receiving it from running backs coach Fred Jackson.
After watching tape and reading about Johnson, this could be a very good pickup. He is 113 yards away from breaking the Michigan state record and is a world class track star. Because of his talents on the track, he traded in going to recruiting camps (where most kids earn their rankings) and went to national track tournaments. This is one of the reasons why he is only ranked at a 2 star/NR rating.
To break down DJ as a player, he is a speedy athlete that is great out of the backfield. He is so good at pass catching and in the open field that it is rumored that he could be moved to slot receiver/return man. This would make him very useful throughout his years at Michigan.
Rest of the Class
The number one question that people are asking after they heard about the commitment was if or not Brionte Dunn was off the table. That can be answered very quickly…..no. DJ is more of a slasher while Dunn is the bruiser that Coach Hoke and Jackson would love to have.
