New Michigan Man: OT Grant Newsome

Another domino has fallen for the 2015 Michigan recruiting class as the talented offensive tackle out of Virginia, Grant Newsome, has committed to the Wolverines over Nittany Lions after another great visit to Ann Arbor.

Holding offers from most of the elite programs in the nation, Newsome found a home at Michigan thanks to several factors, including his affinity for the program and staff, the fit in the offense and depth chart, and the fact that his other top school, Penn State, had already taken two four star offensive tackles in the class. Either way, Newsome is a fantastic get for the staff who has been courting just about every tackle in the class to try and improve the depth chart moving forward.

As far as his game goes, Newsome is a prototypical tackle that features great feet and hands during pass blocking, and good power and drive in the run game. He also has the elite size needed to be molded into a great left or right tackle for Michigan.

Height: 6\’6\’\’

Weight: 290lbs

Offers: Alabama, Penn State, LSU, Arkansas, O$U, Wisconsin, Georgia, MSU, etc.

Highlights

As for the Rest of the Class

Newsome is commitment #7 and the 2nd offensive lineman for Team 136. That means there are 7-10 scholarships available for the staff to use. The top guys to keep an eye on to fall in the next couple months are:

  • 5* TE Chris Clark
  • 4* WR Auden Tate
  • 4* WR/TE Miles Boykin
  • 4* DE Darian Roseboro

Those are guys that Michigan looks like be leading for, so a commitment could come at anytime throughout the summer. Other positions that are looking to be filled includes ONE running back (Jacques Patrick, Damien Harris and Mike Weber are the front runners), defensive end (Keisean Lucier-South is by far the favorite), outside linebacker (Asmar Bilal, Justin Hilliard, and Osa Masina are the favorites) and they are also looking to add another offensive lineman and defensive back.
