In the last two classes, Jim Harbaugh and the Michigan coaching staff has landed its top cornerback targets in each cycle with David Long is 2016 and Ambry Thomas in 2017. Well, make that three years in a row now as 2018 Westlake (GA) CB Myles Sims has committed to Michigan.

Scouting Report
Sims is everything coaches want out of a cornerback/defensive back in 2017. He’s tall, long, athletic, long and smart while also having a nose for the ball and the ability to make some ridiculous plays when the ball is in the air thanks to his arm length. Did I also mention he’s long? This is the type of a player that could be a star in the secondary at either cornerback or as a cover safety.
You know he’s a top prospect when, arguably, the greatest corner ever is sending him love like this on Twitter:

Sims is a long and rangy defensive back with the ability to play cornerback or free safety on the next level. With Sims, what stands out immediately is his frame and length. He covers a lot of ground and he can get his hands on a lot of footballs in coverage. He is still thin, so he needs to add mass and strength, but that should come in time. In coverage, he is best when playing off coverage. He can still improve his quickness in short space. He has great body control, he can make plays on the ball and he is a very smart defensive back in coverage. His tackling is solid. – Scout.com
Recruitment
As soon as the staff flipped the 2017 switch off and fully flipped the 2018 switch on, Sims was a priority. But, as a top recruit out of the heart of SEC country, most figured he’d end up staying down south. With the SEC powers, like Alabama, Auburn, and Georgia extending offers, as well as national brand names, like USC, Ohio State, Texas and Stanford throwing their hat in the ring, this was going to take another Nico Collins-like recruiting pitch to win out. And, whataya know, Harbaugh and his staff did just that.
He was offered back in mid-May 2016 but didn’t make his way to Ann Arbor for the first time until March 7th. And, from avalanche of Crystal Ball predictions that came in just days after he left town, it was obvious that the Wolverines made a huge impact on him and his parents. All signs pointed to an early commitment from the top cornerback target and the staff officially heard the good news just a month later.

Highlights/Interviews
As for the Rest of the Class
Sims is the 4th overall commitment, first defensive back commitment and the second player out of Georgia for Michigan in 2018. With him on board, all focus will likely be used on DeSoto (TX) CB Gemon Green and Cheshire Academy (CT) CB Josh Jobe at the cornerback spot while St. Peter’s Prep (NJ) S Shayne Simon remains the main target at the safety position. In terms of other likely additions at the moment, RB Christian Turner, OT Ryan Hayes, OT Jalen Mayfield and TE Will Mallory all look to be close to joining the fray.
