Team 134 picked up, what many thought was, the highest ranked commitment in school history when the #1 running back (#8 overall) in the country, Derrick Green, made it official on the 2013 national signing day. Well, it looks like he is now the 2nd highest rated commitment in school history now that (I am wayyy too excited to write this) the #2 overall player and #1 CB/ATH in the 2014 class, 5* Jabrill Peppers, has committed to the University of Michigan!
Jabrill Peppers on his Michigan visit (via MGoBlog.com) |
Named a \”Future Game Changer\” by Sports Illustrated, Jabrill Peppers grew up a Michigan fan and partially lived out his childhood dream of doning the maize and blue, and getting onto the field at the Big House when he visited Ann Arbor on April 3rd. After the \”mind blowing\” visit, Jabrill moved the Wolverines at the top of his list even though he had a couple more visits to make. However, nothing was able to beat the feeling of Ann Arbor and the opportunity that comes along with playing at Michigan.
As a Wolverine, Peppers will be able to step in and play from day one. Whether it\’s on defense, offense, or special teams, he will play. On defense, he\’ll start out at corner but could move to safety to make even more plays. On offense, he plays a lot like Reggie Bush, which role he could be in (scat back and slot receiver). On special teams, he is the homerun threat you want back returning kicks and punts. He has said that he wants to be \”better than Charles Woodson\” and now he will have his chance.
Jabrill was told by the coaches that they see him playing all over the field. That includes cornerback (his primary position), running back, receiver, return man, and possibly in the future, safety. If the wants to win the Heisman as a true freshmen, like he said, playing all over the field will be the way to do it. It also helps playing for the coach that coached and recruited the only defensive Heisman winner in history, Brady Hoke.

As for the Rest of the Class
With Peppers on board, the 2014 class is already at 9 commitments with 7-11 spots available. That means, like they have for the entire class, they\’ll be very selective of who they add. And now, with Peppers committed, Michigan will be even more attractive to the elite targets like 5* Juju Smith, 5* Da\’Shawn Hand, and 5* DT Andrew Brown. Some of the other top targets at the moment include 4* OT Alex Bars, 4* OT Jamarco Jones, 3* LB Chase Winovich, 4* LB Kyron Watson, 4* CB Parrker Westphal, and 4* WR Artavis Scott.
