The Ohio State game was supposed to be the biggest recruiting weekend of the season but this weekend’s trip will likely end up being even bigger for the program. As the staff is set to welcome, not only a couple big 2018 recruiting targets, but the three potential Ole Miss transfers. And fireworks are very possible to happen during the visit or soon after.
Check out the full list of visitors expected this weekend, December 8th and 9th:
TransfersÂ
The former five star, #1 overall quarterback recruit’s story is well known by now. He’s from Toledo, grew up a fan of the Wolverines and always wanted to play for Michigan. Thanks to Ole Miss’ NCAA violations, the sophomore is allowed to transfer and, possibly, play immediately. And it looks like this visit is just a final step for him before making his final decision, which could come before the end of the weekend.
Anderson is another former top100 recruit and freshmen standout for the Rebels. He also is one to watch during this visit as, according to several reports, chances of him choosing Michigan are very high. Also like Patterson, he’s a guy who could make a huge impact for the Wolverines in 2018.
Jefferson hasn’t received the same amount of coverage during this short but crazy transfer recruitment as Patterson and Anderson but he’s looking just as likely to end up choosing Michigan. It’s unknown if that will go down during this trip, like the others have been rumored to do, but thanks to Michigan actually finishing second in his original high school recruitment. He also used to live in the state when his dad, Shawn, played and coached for the Lions. So, the connections are already there.
2018 Targets
Patterson decommitted from Arizona State this week and looks to be down to Michigan and UCLA. He’ll visit Ann Arbor this weekend and Los Angeles next week, with a decision coming in January. The in-state Bruins may have the upperhand but the high need for tackles and Greg Frey’s ability to develop versatile lineman, like Patterson, into NFL draft picks should make this an interesting decision.
ATH Michael Barrett
Barrett is a guy who has quietly been a wanted target from the coaching staff. He’s actually a standout quarterback for Lowndes HS in Georgia, though it’s unknown what position the coaching staff likes him at. It was originally reported that he was a running back but with his versatile ability and athleticism, he could play several positions, including some quarterback. If the staff can pitch him on being a Swiss Army Knife/offensive weapon over just playing quarterback, he could be back on the BGRC later this month.
OT Jalen Goss
Teammates with Barrett, Goss is another target to watch during this visit. He’s named Auburn his leader recently but the high need for tackles at Michigan and the chance to potentially play with his friend and teammate should help Michigan push the Tigers a bit. We’ll see how hard the staff pushes for the high ceiling prospect during the trip, especially with few spots remaining and Nicholas Petit-Frere and Jarrett Patterson still on the board.
