Between December 14th and January 13th, college football recruiting goes on a dead period as players are able to spend time with their families and forget about the grind that comes with coaches trying to land their signature in February. That is why this last recruiting weekend of the year is so huge. Especially for Michigan, who will be hosting several top targets for official visits.
Check out who Michigan will host on a visit this weekend:
WR Eddie McDoom
Per 247Sports’ Josh Edwards, McDoom will be making his first visit to Michigan and it could be a big one. There are a lot of questions surrounding how UM will finish out the receiver recruiting but it’s no secret that the staff is high on the Sunshine State star. I don’t believe a quick commitment is possible here but this visit could give UM a step up in his recruitment.
OT Jean Delance
Per multiple reports, Delance will be making a make up official visit to Michigan after not being able to make it for the Ohio State game. Like McDoom, this is a huge opportunity for the staff to make a move in his recruitment. This looks to be a Michigan-Texas battle (with LSU lurking) which has to have the UM staff feeling good thanks to the direction of both programs. Though they’ll have to show him why moving up north is a better move than staying in his home state.
Just like Jones, per multiple reports, Jones will be making a make up official visit to Michigan this weekend after missing out on the OSU trip (which may be a good thing in the long run). Out of all of the visitors, he’s the most likely to commit during the trip though I don’t believe it will happen. Either way, this is another big opportunity for UM to take a commanding lead in a top target’s recruitment.
CB Lavert Hill
Per The Michigan Insider’s Sam Webb, Hill will take an official visit to Michigan this weekend. This was a bit of a shock since most believed he’d use all five of his officials to visit schools he doesn’t see that often. But with him expected to make his decision at the Army All-American game (January 9th) and now that his recruitment looks to be opening up even more (per Webb), the staff clearly needed to get him on campus before the dead period.
Richardson tweeted out his visit plans last week. He’s one of the most forgotten commits in the class thanks to not being the highest ranked player and also sitting out his senior season with a torn ACL. But that doesn’t mean he isn’t a big get. I’m a big fan of his game and believe he could end up being one of the many “steals of the class”. As long as the staff has full intent on keeping him in the class, this visit should just solidify his standing.
WR Nate Johnson
Per The Michigan Insider’s Brice Marich, Johnson quickly set up his official visit to Michigan for this weekend after landing an offer and receiving multiple visits from Coach Fisch. This could be a recruitment to keep a close eye on as UM is casting a wide net to finish up their wide receiver recruiting haul so it could come down to a first come, first serve situation for at least one spot.
Per Wolverine247’s Steve Lorenz, Peters will take his official visit this weekend. He’s been at Michigan so many times that this will probably be a fun, recruiting trip for him to try and land some of the staff’s top targets.
ATH Chris Evans
Per The Michigan Insider’s Sam Webb, Evans will make his official visit this weekend. Like the rest, I’m sure they’re there to see their new home and help recruit the top targets on campus.
DE Ron Johnson
Per TMI’s Sam Webb. See above.
WR Brad Hawkins
Per TMI’s Sam Webb. See above.
Unofficial
Per The Michigan Insider’s Sam Webb, Elliott will make a return trip with his mother, his first since committing. This should just be a trip to help lock in his commitment and help recruit the other top targets, especially fellow Texan Jean Delance.
