Michigan football commitment, Valor (CO) QB Dylan McCaffrey, joined 23 of the other top quarterback recruits in the 2017 class at the biggest and best quarterbacking competition in the world, the Elite 11. And though the UM commit didn’t win the entire thing, he disappoint in the least bit.
Here’s a Tweet-Cap timeline of McCaffrey’s Elite 11 finals:

Scout/Analyst Takes
McCaffrey on his time (via Bleacher Report):
I just have to keep working,” McCaffrey said. “I think there is a lot of room for improvement for all of us that are out here. That’s what it takes to succeed at the next level and I just want to be the guy that takes what I’velearned here and use it to help me continue to grow as a player.”
George Whitfield to 247Sports’ Luke Stampini:
He was the alpha here the whole weekend,” Whitfield told 247Sports analyst Luke Stampini after the event. “Every kid looked to him and every kid was led by him. There’s no question why he’s so highly regarded.”
Trent Dilfer to Scout.com’s Greg Biggins (talks McCaffrey at the 10:20 mark):
My Take
While the Elite 11 is a top quarterback competition, it doesn’t tell the whole story. And though Davis Mills is definitely one of the top QBs in the country, McCaffrey’s best quality is his poise. He shows off his ability to stand in the pocket and deliver accurate passes with defenders barring down on him throughout his game highlights. But that wasn’t seen at the competition.
What was seen was his leadership abilities, football IQ and his technique. That helped him land in the Elite 11 and should be the biggest takeaways from this competition.
You can argue all day about who is the best quarterback in the 2017 class but the rankings come down to much more than tee shirt and shorts competitions. It’ll be very interesting to watch throughout the fall to see who ends up being the #1 ranked QB in the 2017 class. But, if I were a betting man, both McCaffrey and Mills are safe bets to be in the conversation up until NSD.
