There are a couple ways to know when your program has reached the \”elite\” level. One way, is when they are able to land an official visit from the #1 overall player in the class (via Scout.com) after less than two months of recruitment.
That is exactly what Michigan and head coach John Beilein have done as Jaylen Brown will \”probably\” use one of his final official visits on a trip to Ann Arbor.
As far as his recruitment goes, Brown\’s mother grew up in Muskegon, MI., which is a big reason why the Wolverines are being considered. He spoke with Adam Zagoria of ZagsBlog to explain what he likes about Michigan:
“The coach is cool,” he said. “They have a lot of freedom within their system. I’m from Michigan. That’s where my family is from, so Michigan is home. Not too far from where my mom was raised.”
Brown is an elite, probably one and done type of a recruit that would be an instant impact for whatever team lands him for 2015. At 6\’8\’\’ 220lbs, he has the size and athleticism needed to dominate at both the high school and college level. Add in his ability to jump out of the gym and shoot the rock from deep, and it makes sense why Beilein would love to have him in the Maize and Blue.
Other top teams in his recruitment includes Kentucky, Kansas and UCLA.
For a more in-depth scouting report on Brown, 247Sports\’ Thomas Beindit broke down the talented youngsters game.
