Another day, another batch of fantastic recruiting rumors that have set Michigan Twitter and message boards on fire. So, without further adieu, let’s dive into the fun:
Nauta Lock
Buford (GA) IMG Academy TE Isaac Nauta will make his college announcement tomorrow at the Army All-American game.
That is a fact. But where he will go is still up in the air though there are some positive notes starting to come in for the Wolverines.
One came from Twitter and I’ll take that one with a big grain of salt for a couple reasons but the main one being that there have been multiple reports out there that Nauta is keeping it close to the vest and “hasn’t even told his father”, per The Wolverine ($).
As for some other UM recruiting sources with years of experience and trusted sources:
- Wolverine247’s Steve Lorenz has also heard that Nauta is keeping his choice private and, while he still believes it’ll be Georgia in the end, Michigan definitely believes they have a chance ($).
- Lorenz is also starting to hear some more positive notes for UM heading into Saturday ($).
- The Michigan Insider’s Sam Webb is also starting to have some “new found optimism” on the Nauta front as both coaching staffs are feeling confident heading into the announcement ($).
- On the not as positive side,
Another reason to feel optimistic stems from the staff’s pursuit of the other tight end targets though from the information I just recently received, it looks like it could go either way. I’ll dig more into that after the announcement but at this point I’ll stick with UGA though I’m definitely starting to feel much better about UM’s chances than I was earlier in the week.
Whether Michigan hits a home run or swings and misses at the announcement tomorrow, the fact they are fighting for his signature this late in the process is impressive and should be a great learning experience for TE coach Jay Harbaugh.
Not Buying the Hype
After two Ole Miss analysts put in Crystal Ball predictions for Paramus Catholic (NJ) DL Rashan Gary to choose the Rebels, Michigan fans, once again, lost their minds.
While I understand why some may start freaking out and seeing another “Da’shawn Hand” situation happening, I still fully believe Michigan is the favorite for Gary and would still be shocked if he chose to play his college ball elsewhere. And that still looks to be the case for both The Wolverine and The Michigan Insider analysts.
The Wolverine crew remains in the “Michigan is the favorite” crowd as well ($) thanks to all of Gary’s connections to UM, his mother’s love for the University and the upcoming unofficial visit he has set up for January 22nd.
As for The Michigan Insider’s Sam Webb, he’s been one of the main people in contact with Jen Coney, Rashan’s mother, throughout his recruitment and he’s feeling “better and better about this one” ($).
So, you can go off of the Ole Miss insiders or the Michigan insiders and everyone else. Pick your poison.
More Cali Commits Coming?
Back when Michigan offered the De La Salle (CA) duo, TE/DE Devin Asiasi and DT/OL Boss Tagaloa, they looked to be a legit option thanks to Jim Harbaugh’s ties to California. However, that started to look like a pipe dream after they didn’t set up an official visit this fall.
Well, things have definitely changed. Not only did Asiasi tweet out a picture with Michigan commit DT Jordan Elliott:

But Steve Lorenz is also starting to hear some optimism from Michigan about the duo ($) as an official visit looks likely to happen:
According to a source at the US Army All-American game, Asiasi will not take an official to Alabama and is expected to official to Michigan instead. Tagaloa was already expected to take a visit to Ann Arbor sometime in January before making a final decision.”
Add that in with some intel we received here at MGoFish and it looks like the duo is becoming a legit option for this class, especially if they get them on campus for an official visit in the next couple weeks.
Quick Hitters
- 2017 ATH CJ Cotman received an offer from Michigan
- Elite 2017 DT Marvin Wilson looks to be a top target for the staff and thanks to that, he’s looking to visit Michigan this year ($).
- Rivals Mike Farrell broke down Michigan commit QB Brandon Peters at the Army All-American practices and while he had some good things to say, I don’t believe a lot of UM fans will love what he had to say.
