After a successful weekend for the Michigan recruiting staff, I’ve put in my Crystal Ball predictions for both 2018 Traverse City (MI) OT Ryan Hayes and 2018 Catholic Central (MI) OT Jalen Mayfield to Michigan.
Like pretty much every class, Michigan seems to be looking for offensive tackles in 2018. But unlike most years, the staff didn’t have to go very far to find two of the most athletic tackles in the class. And now, all signs point to both of them committing to Michigan in the not-so-distant future.
Hayes is the #2 player in the state of Michigan and a player that I included in my latest Best Guess Recruiting Class. That was thanks his connection to newly hired offensive tackle coach Greg Frey and his planned visit to Ann Arbor. Well, that looks to be a good call as his visit went as well as possible and UM is now atop his list ($), according to Wolverine247’s Steve Lorenz. And now the Crystal Ball run has begun, mine included.
Mayfield is a player that a lot of Michigan analysts have kept a close eye on since the 2018 class became the main focus of the coaching staffs across the nation. That really picked up after the Wolverines decided to offer the Gophers commit on his first unofficial visit to Ann Arbor on the 24th. That was quickly followed up with a decommitment from Minnesota and my Crystal Ball, and an avalanche of others, to Michigan. Though he’s saying he’ll wait until later to make a decision, he looks like he could drop sooner rather than later.
