In a sad but inspiring letter, Michigan’s 2020 quarterback commit, Pinnacle (AZ) QB JD Johnson announced his retirement from football because of a birth defect.
It’s the type of news that just breaks your heart. But Johnson took the extremely tough moment to also announce that his scholarship and spot in the football program will be upheld by Michigan and Jim Harbaugh.
It’s great to see that Johnson will get his chance to join the program but now there is the question of, where will the staff turn to fill the quarterback position in the 2020 recruiting class?
The top name to watch is Rancho Cucamonga (CA) QB CJ Stroud, the #93 player in the class (per 247Sports), who also happens to be a Crystal Ball lean to Ohio State. But OSU already has four-star QB Jack Miller committed to the class, so there might be an opening for Michigan there.
Look for other names to emerge in the coming days and weeks.
