Finding dynamic offensive weapons that can impact both the passing and running game was a priority in this class for the Michigan coaching staff. And they just received good news from one of the south’s rising prospects as Martin County (FL) ATH George Johnson III has committed to the Wolverines following his official visit to campus.

Scouting Report
It makes sense that he held an offer from Georgia Tech because he’d be a perfect fit in Paul Johnson’s flexbone offense. George Johnson, not Paul, is a dynamic dual-threat quarterback/wide receiver that flashes big-time playmaking ability. He’s not the biggest guy in the world but he’s tough and has a ridiculous burst. When he plants his foot in the ground, he goes and is hard to catch. Making the move from quarterback to full-time wide receiver/every now and then wildcat quarterback may take a little time. But he’s the type of player that you find a way to get the ball to. I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s a top return man option for Michigan at some point during his career.
Recruitment
Michigan has long been looking for a shiftier, slot receiver that can make plays out of the backfield in this class. While there have been several different targets out there, Johnson quickly burst on the scene and was committed to the program a month after receiving his offer.
Once again, the big recruiting weekend paid off and won over a visiting recruit. Johnson obviously liked what he was hearing from Michigan when they extended the offer in May as he quickly set up his official visit to Ann Arbor for June. The fit in the offense and everything he saw and felt on the visit were clearly more than enough as he received a ton of Crystal Ball predictions ahead of his decision date, just a day after his visit to town.
Thanks to that visit, Michigan beat out Florida State, who many thought was the team to beat here, as well as Georgia, who offered and received a visit at the beginning of June, for the offensive dynamo.

Highlights
As for the Rest of the Class
Johnson is the 16th overall commitment, the first wide receiver commitment, and the first commit out of Florida. He’s also the sixth commitment out of the mega June recruiting weekend with more that could be coming in the not-so-distant future. Names to watch include S Quinten Johnson, RB Eric Gray, DE/OLB Aeneas DiCosmo and DE David Ojabo. As for wide receivers that are still on the board, ATH Wandale Robinson, WR Cornelius Johnson, WR John Dunmore and WR Kyle Ford are still options but it’s unclear just how many receiver prospects they plan to take in this class. I wouldn’t be surprised to see 1-2 more.
