To kick off the official start to the 2016 Michigan football fall camp, we’ve broken down each incoming freshmen football signee. That includes their scouting report, 2016 season prediction as well outside scouting reports.
Rashan Gary, Paramus (NJ) Paramus Catholic
- Position: Defensive Line
- Height/Weight: 6’5, 287-pounds
- Commitment Date: February 3rd, 2016
Scouting Report:
Gary can do it all on the defensive line: rush the quarterback, chase him down, and tackle him. Athleticism is one trait that will allow Gary to play both inside and outside on the defensive line, though he will start at defensive end. Gary also is agile enough to chase down running backs going outside and strong enough to stand them up between the hashes.
True Freshman Projection:
Gary will see as much playing time as any other true freshman in the country in 2016. There is no doubt that he will need a few games to get under his belt before he becomes the mythological super hero that recruiting services have sold to Michigan fans since he was offered on August 1, 2013. Gary will get more and more playing time and opportunities to prove his worth as the season progresses.
Jim Harbaugh Quote: “(He’s) a really good football player.”
Scouting Report from Scout’s Mike Olsen: “No high school player is ever a can’t-miss prospect, but Gary comes as close to that as a defensive lineman can.”
