To kick off the official start to the 2016 Michigan football fall camp, we’ve broken down each incoming freshmen football signee. That includes their highlights, scouting report and our 2016 season prediction.
Devin Bush Jr., Hollywood (FL) Flanagan
- Position: Linebacker
- Height/Weight: 5’11” 232lbs
- Commitment Date: December 16th, 2015
Scouting Report: Bush is an attacking linebacker that uses his instincts and football IQ to be a step above his competition. Though he may not be the biggest player in the world, he makes up for it with his athleticism and quickness. Bursting through the line of scrimmage at the snap of the ball allows him to make several plays in the backfield on both quarterbacks and ball carriers.
True Freshmen Projection: With the open positions at linebacker and Bush enrolling early, it’s very likely that he dodges a redshirt and sees plenty of the field this fall. His athleticism is what separates him from the older backers on the depth chart. As long as he stays healthy and plays up to his potential, not only should he see meaningful snaps but, he could possibly start by the start of the B1G season.
Son of a Scout Scouting Report: He’s a thumper that is just as happy to take on blocks violently as he is to avoid them in pursuit. There are times he reaches a bit as a tackler because of poor pursuit angles, but when he fits, he is knocking ball carriers backwards. He’s a physical football player.
His recognition skills are solid and he does a nice job of working his way through the trash to find the football. As a blitzer, he needs to improve his timing, but shows the ability to get skinny through creases to create pressure.
