Previewing the 2016 Quarterback Recruiting Trail

With the offers that have gone out and the interest that has been returned, the 2016 quarterback position could be filled up very quickly for the Michigan coaching staff. Her are the top guys on the board, in our opinion.

UPDATE: Messiah deWeaver has committed to Michigan

Top Tier

1. KJ Costello, 6’4” 205lbs. Rancho Santa Margarita, CA (Santa Margarita HS)

– One of the top players in California and the country, Costello is a prototypical pro-style quarterback. He has the size, athleticism and arm to excel in college, especially at Michigan. After receiving an offer from the Wolverines, he admitted how big it was for him, and it is rumored that they are not only his leader but he was even contemplating a quick decision.

2. Messiah deWeaver, 6’5” 215lbs. Trotwood, OH (Trotwood Madison HS)

– Tall, strong arm and accurate, deWeaver has been on the staff\’s radar for a long time. He has camped and visited multiple times and it all paid off as he was finally extended an offer from the Wolverines. With his familiarity with the program it is possible he could pull the trigger first on a commitment.

3. Shea Patterson, 6’2” 185lbs. Shreveport, LA (Calvery Baptist Academy)

– The strong armed, athletic Arizona commit is the #1 pro-style QB according to 247 and just happens to have plenty of ties to the state and area. This makes him a very possible candidate to join the class. But first, the staff will need to get him on campus and show him what Michigan has to offer him. When he visits this summer, I fully expect the Wolverines to be one of his top teams and could have him rethinking his commitment to the Wildcats.

4. Malik Henry, 6’3” 180lbs. Thousands Oaks, CA (Westlake HS)

– According to just about every recruiting service, Henry is the #1 QB in this class. He has the elite size, arm strength, skill and athleticism to run a pro or spread attack, and Michigan was lucky enough to get him onto campus and coach him at the SMSB camp in Detroit. The interest seems to be mutual as Henry is a big fan of the Big House and is looking for a school with a world class business program (Michigan\’s Ross School of Business is #11 in the world). But compared to Costello and Patterson, Henry will be a much harder pull since he\’ll likely be one of the most coveted recruits in the country.
