Well, I hope you weren’t eating dinner and watching The Weeknd perform at the Grammys on Monday night, like someone writing this article, because Michigan just picked up one of the biggest “gets” of the Harbaugh-era.
2017 Valor (CO) QB Dylan McCaffrey decided to end his recruitment and commit to the Wolverines nearly a year after receiving his offer from the staff.
From the day they offered him, he was seen as the #1 quarterback on their board and one of the top targets overall. And now they have him in the fold.
McCaffrey is a great addition to this class for multiple reasons:
- For one, he’s one of the most talented player in the class and another stellar building block for Harbaugh and the Wolverines. Adding him to the depth chart alongside Brandon Peters, Zach Gentry and Alex Malzone should almost guarantee Michigan’s quarterback play being a great shape for years to come.
- Valor is a very good high school football program that puts out top talent in almost every class.
- Getting in good with the McCaffrey family is always a good idea. Have you seen the family’s athletic history?
- Two brothers who play P5 football
- RB Christian at Stanford, who was the runner up for the 2015 Heisman trophy
- WR Max at Duke, who is one of the Blue Devils top receivers
- All-Pro and Super Bowl winning NFL receiver for a father
- His mother was a top high school soccer player and played at Stanford
- Don’t forget his grandfather won a silver medal in the 100-yard dash at the 1960 Summer Olympics. Pretty good lineage.
- Two brothers who play P5 football
- On top of all of that, his addition now gives Michigan an elite recruiter and leader of the class to go out and get the best players in the class. It also helps that some of those top targets have already taken notice:
2017 Cass Tech (MI) WR Donovan Peoples-Jones

2017 Cheshire (CT) WR Tarik Black

If McCaffrey can help bring in two elite receivers like Peoples-Jones and Black to go along with the expected elite offensive line haul, including OT Isaiah Wilson and OL Tedarrell Slaton, Michigan could end up signing an even better class in 2017 than in 2016.
