In 2017, Michigan is behind the eight ball a bit in terms of tight end recruiting. They have a three star in Carter Dunaway but have already missed on most of the top tight ends in the class, with only a couple uncommitted guys left on the board. So, it’s easy to see why they’ve already extended 7 offers to the top ranked tight ends in the 2018 class.
Out of those top tight ends on Michigan’s board, there may not be a name higher up than 2018 Ridge Point (TX) TE Mustapha Muhammad.
Muhammad is, arguably, the most athletic tight end in the 2018 class which is a big reason why he’s a top target for Jay Harbaugh. And he already likes a lot about what Michigan has to offer.
“”I like how they utilize the TE position, I like Coach Harbaugh and his career, I like how they are going to have Jordan uniforms, and it seems like a pretty cool place,” he said.
Muhammad, who was supposed to visit for the Spring Game back in April but was unable to make it, already has plans for the return trip.
“Im trying to go to the (Ann Arbor) camp on June 17th.” Besides a trip to Michigan, he also has plans to check out UCLA on June 24th and possibly take a southeast road trip later this summer.
Though it’s early and Muhammad will likely be a priority for several schools, I believe Michigan’s early pursuit plus their likely pitch of needing an elite tight end in this class will at least keep UM in this race throughout the cycle.
