Commitments are normally seen from a mile away, however, the Wolverines landed a pledge from an offensive lineman on Saturday weeks before a decision was expected as 2017 Darien (CT) OT Andrew Stueber has committed to Michigan.

Stueber is an old school offensive tackle. At 6’6” 290lbs, he is exactly what Bo Schembechler would have looked for as he not only has the size and build of prototypical lineman but he also has that nastiness that coaches are looking for in their lineman. He proved it twice in front of the coaching staff and is a commit that should be looked at closely as he’s likely to fly under the radar.
Though Stueber isn’t the highest rated recruit in the class, he showed the staff what he can do with his size and strength during the Big Man camp in Ann Arbor in mid-June. That performance earned him an offer which quickly pushed Michigan to the top of his list as a “dream offer”. He wasn’t expected to make his decision until August at the BBQ but he wanted to guarantee his spot in the class and committed to Michigan in late June.
Here’s what Stueber had to say about his reasoning behind the commitment: “It has always been a dream school and I thought it was the best place academically and the football program is awesome and is on the rise. I had a great feeling with the coaches and I could just see myself there.”
- Height: 6’6”
- Weight: 290lbs
- Hometown (School): Darien, CT (Darien)
- Notable Offers: Penn State, North Carolina, Tennessee, Pittsburgh, Maryland
- Rankings: Scout (3*, #43 OT) – Rivals (3*, #64 OT) – 247 (3*, #126 OT) – ESPN (NR)
As for the Rest of the Class: Stueber is the 16th overall commitment, 2nd offensive lineman and 2nd commitment out of Connecticut. There are plenty of names that could join him in a summer commitment, including both offensive lineman and CT recruits. The names to watch includes OT Kai-Leon Herbert, WR Tarik Black, ATH CJ Holmes. As for other offensive lineman, OT Isaiah Wilson, OT Henry Bainivalu and OT Toryque Bateman are all legit options for UM.
