2016 Freshmen Scouting Report: David Long

To kick off the official start to the 2016 Michigan football fall camp, we’ve broken down each incoming freshmen football signee. That includes their scouting report, 2016 season prediction as well as a quote from one of their positional coaches.

David Long, Los Angeles (CA) Loyola

  • Position: Cornerback
  • Height/Weight: 5’11” 187lbs
  • Commitment Date: January 21st, 2016

Scouting Report: Long has all the makings of a productive and impactful cornerback. He’s a long, athletic player that has elite level speed for a freshmen. His ability to flip his hips in coverage and read the quarterback are will give him the chance to contribute early. Once he locks down his cornerback spot, look out for him as a return man and spot receiver.

True Freshmen Projection: Michigan returns their top three cornerbacks but, after that, the depth chart is wide open. Early returns are very positive on Long, mainly because of his speed. That’s why I believe he not only will avoid a redshirt his freshmen year but will be a real contributor to the team this fall.

Greg Biggins Scouting Report: Long is a two-way player who emerged this past spring as an elite cover corner. Has all the physical tools you could want in a next level DB including size, quickness, top end speed, instincts and toughness. He’s a smart player with a high understanding of how to play the game and always competes at a high level. He’s smooth in his backpedal, shows explosiveness getting in and out of his breaks and has excellent recovery speed as well
