Who’s Next: Candidates Who Could Follow Mason to Michigan

Adding one fullback via full scholarship wasn’t expected by many in this class and adding a second definitely wasn’t. However, it was needed when you look at the depth chart and how important the position is for the offense.

With Lasater and now Mason, Michigan has themselves two physical, mean, versatile fullbacks that will see plenty of time on special teams and could play linebacker in a pinch. Mega decent pickups, in my opinion. But who’s next to join the 2017 Michigan recruiting class?

The class sits at 12 spots at this moment with rumors from The Wolverine that another commitment is on the horizon. That name has yet to be tracked down but I have my guesses.

As for the full list of candidates that could be the next to commit to Michigan, here are the names to remember:

DE Corey Malone-Hatcher

CMH has long looked like “the next commit” for Michigan. He’s been high on the staff’s board and he’s been high on UM. But being a top ranked player in the state, he’s taken his time a bit. It looks like that time is coming to an end as there’s not much else to see for a player of his caliber that has been on tons of recruiting visits. At this point, he’s my odds on favorite to be the next commit.

S Jaylen Kelly-Powell

JKP is another top in-stater that has been on the possible commit list for quite awhile now. He was originally expected to make a decision after his junior season but decided to hold off. After taking plenty of visits over the winter and spring, it looks like a decision could come in the not-so-distant future. And I believe it’ll be for Michigan. But will he decide before Malone-Hatcher? That’s the question here.

DE Deron Irving-Bey

Another in-stater, Irving-Bey is a newer name to the recruiting board as he landed his offer from the staff just a couple weeks ago. Though Michigan State may be the early favorite, Michigan looks to be making a strong push for the Flint standout. If they make him a priority and push for him, anything could happen.

TE Matt Dotson

Dotson is another player that looks to have Michigan at the top of his list. And being a player from not too far away, I could see him making a decision in late spring/early summer. If he does indeed decide to end his recruitment, it seems likely to be for UM.

OL Jordan Reid

Like most of the names on the list, Reid is a local target that has mentioned that he’s close to making a decision. He’s also let it be known that Michigan is one of his top teams. While I’m not 1000% sure he’s at the top of the staff’s offensive line board, I believe he’d be a take if he wants to commit to the Wolverines.

Unknown Satellite Camper

If none of the guys above make their decision before June, it’s a pretty safe bet to say Michigan will receive a commitment from an unnamed/underrated recruit that the staff offers during the satellite camp trip. Since I’m not a full fledged psychic, I don’t know exactly who that will be.

More commitments are coming for Michigan. Who do you think the next one will be? Let me know in the comment section below!
