New Michigan Man: OLB Carlo Kemp

It’s been a minute, actually it’s been just over two months, but Michigan has picked up a 2016 commitment as Fairview (CO) OLB Carlo Kemp has committed to Jim Harbaugh and the Wolverines.

In DJ Durkin’s defense, the BUCK linebacker position is known to be the most important. And that is where Kemp is projected to play. He has the size, athleticism and instincts that should fit that position perfectly. Whether he starts off there or starts at defensive end or another linebacker position, there’s a good chance he sees the field early on in his career.

Kemp has long been the staff’s top target at BUCK linebacker and has been favoring Michigan since his unofficial visit at the beginning of August. Commits thought he was close to committing during his visit but he decided to hold off and take officials. Though Notre Dame nearly swayed him to South Bend after his official, the multiple trips to Ann Arbor and fit in the defense was too much and landed UM their top BUCK linebacker target. Clearly Harbaugh was happy about his addition:

  • Height: 6’3”
  • Weight: 250lbs
  • Notable Offers: Notre Dame, Arizona State, UCLA, Nebraska
  • Rankings: Scout (4*) – Rivals (4*, #203 overall) – 247Sports (4*, #308 overall) – ESPN (4*)

As for the Rest of the Class: Kemp is the 21st commitment and 3rd linebacker in the class. Though that number is likely to change with David Reese starting to look around. The staff is heavily targeting other top linebacker and BUCK options, including Dontavious Jackson and Caleb Kelly. There’s around 3 months left until National Signing Day so a ton is expected to change and happen. So, hang on to your hats.
