New Michigan Man: DE Shelton Johnson

Finding a dominant pass rusher is something every coaching staff is looking for, and Michigan is no different. And they may have found that guy in the surprise commitment of defensive end Shelton Johnson out of Delray Beach, Florida.

Shelton Johnson picks Michigan.

Johnson is a pure pass rusher. He has the elite size and athleticism to get after the quarterback and contribute very early in his career. With great coaching and physical development, he could be the recruit that everyone looks back at as the steal of the class.

His recruitment went from 0 to 60, especially in terms of Michigan\’s involvement. The Wolverines offered soon after Harbaugh took over and got him on campus for an official visit the first weekend after the dead period. While the visit went well, not very much came out of it in terms of interest in the Maize and Blue. However, on National Signing Day, he shocked just about everyone and chose Michigan over the in-state favorite, Florida State.

Height: 6\’5\’\’

Weight: 220lbs

Notable Offers: Florida State, Miami (FL), Virginia Tech, South Carolina

Rankings: Scout (4*, #291 overall) – Rivals (3*, #37 DE) – 247Sports (3*, #20 DE) – ESPN (3*, #36 DE)

As for the Rest of the Class: Johnson is the 13th commitment in the class and the 2nd defensive end. With more spots available than prospects on the board, the top guys left are Iman Marshall and Tyrone Wheatley Jr.
