Hamilton Flips from Michigan to Stanford

The craziness continues as longtime commit Gilman (MD) Devery Hamilton has flipped his commitment from Michigan to Stanford just days before National Signing Day.

Hamilton joins the list of former June commitments that has now left the class but unlike the others, this one was not seen coming from far away. After Michigan added the commitment of his teammate OT Stephen Spanellis, it looked the like the duo was destined to play their college ball together in Ann Arbor. However, Hamilton had other plans.

First hinted at by head coach Biff Poggi (tweet has now been deleted) and confirmed by multiple reports, Hamilton decided that Stanford, not Michigan, was the best place for him.

This is a blow to Michigan’s 2016 class as he had the highest ceiling of the pure tackles in the class. With him out of the picture now, it’ll be interesting to see how the staff looks to fill the void. They could take an even harder run at the likes of OT EJ Price and OT Will Fries but, unless they offer another player right before NSD, the safe bet would be on them using that spot for another position. Especially with 2017 being stocked full of top tackle targets interested in the Wolverines.
