Team 135 Best Guess Recruiting Class: January 29th

With the 2013 Michigan recruiting class almost full, we will put together out our 2nd Best Guess 2014 Michigan recruiting class!

Wide receivers and defensive ends will be a top target, especially with plenty of top flight prospects having interest in Michigan. Also, at least one QB will be needed.

Check it:

1. QB: 4* David Cornwell, 6\’5\’\’ 230lbs. Norman, OK (Norman North HS)

Highlights-One of my favorite prospects in the 2014 class, Cornwell is a big, strong armed QB that can make all the throws and has elite footwork. He reminds a lot of people of Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback, Ben Roethlisberger, thanks to his pocket awareness and strength. He says he won\’t commit if/when offered by Michigan, but I think it\’s still a possibility.

Michigan\’s Chances: Extremely High

2. RB: 3* Joe Mixon, 6\’1\’\’ 195lbs. Oakley, CA (Freedom HS)

Joe Mixon #20, RB

-A true playmaker, Mixon is a top level prospect that landed his Michigan offer recently. He has an Adrian Peterson running style and should be a stud.

3. RB/FB/LB: 3* Gary Hosey, 6\’0\’\’ 230lbs. Detroit, MI (Cass Tech HS)

-Uncommited and Not Offered. A Linebacker and Running back at Michigan academy aka Cass Tech, Hosey could fit the hard nosed running style that Hoke loves.

Michigan\’s Chances: Good

4. WR: 4* Corey Holmes, 6\’0\’\’ 180lbs. Ft Lauderdale, FL (St. Thomas Aquinas HS)

Corey Holmes, WR

-Morris will need as many top flight, playmaking receivers as possible. Holmes fits that mold perfectly and really seems to be favoring Michigan. He could be that elusive #1 receiver needed.

Michigan\’s Chances: Very good

5. WR: 4* Drake Harris, 6\’4\’\’ Grand Rapids, MI (GR Christian HS)

Highlights-The best offensive player in Michigan and one of the best WRs in the country, Harris is still technically committed to MSU but is no longer looking to play basketball in college so he is looking for bigger football programs. Now, Michigan is making frequent visits and have a great shot. Especially with his father being a die-hard Wolverine fan.

6. WR: 3* Maurice Ways, 6\’4\’\’ 180lbs. Beverly Hills, MI (Country Day)

-A big play threat at wide out, Ways is teammates with 2014 recruit, Tyler Wiegers, and is one of the top receivers and players in Michigan. He could be the steal of the class if Michigan offers and he commits before his Senior year. He is also a basketball recruit.

Michigan\’s Chances: Very Good

7. WR. 4* Artavis Scott, 5\’11\’\’ 180lbs. Tarpon Springs, FL (East Lake)

-The quick twitch slot receiver would be a package deal with his teammate, 4* OT Mason Cole. They are both offered and looking to play together, and they both have shown big interest in Michigan.

Michigan\’s Chances: Good

8. WR: 4* Derek Kief, 6\’5\’\’ 190lbs. Cincinnati, OH (La Salle HS)

Highlights-The big, tall receiver is one to definitely keep your eye on for this 2014 class. He has visited Michigan and really seemed to like it. This could be a Michigan-O$U battle but we may have the upper hand. Once an offer is given out, watch for a commitment in the near future.

9. TE: 4* Tyler Luatua, 6\’4\’\’ 235lbs. La Mirada, CA (La Mirada HS)

Tyler Luatua #9, TE

-The #1 tight end in the country, Luatua is a match up nightmare. Michigan paid him a visit and has Tyler and his coach really excited about the possibilities that the Wolverines and their offense have to offer.

Michigan\’s Chances: Good, but early

10. TE: 4* Nic Weishar, 6\’5\’\’ 220lbs. Chicago, IL (Marist HS)

Highlights-A top tight end in the class of 2014, Weishar is a big, athletic tight end that can go up and make catches. He could even be a wide receiver if he had better speed. Michigan has been in contact a lot recently and landed an offer.

11. OT/OG: 4* Jamarco Jones, 6\’5\’\’ 285lbs. Chicago, IL (De La Salle Institute)

-Already seems to be loving Michigan, having already visited multiple times. Would be another great tackle pick up for Hoke and company.

12. OG: 3* Tommy Doles, 6\’5\’\’ 260lbs. Grand Rapids, MI (GR Christian HS)

-A top recruit in Michigan, Doles is favoring the Wolverines after several visits. He is also teammates with top WR recruit, Drake Harris. So, pulling him in could be huge with the recruitment of Harris.

13. OT: 3* Alex Bars, 6\’6\’\’ 286 lbs. Nashville, TN (Montgomery Bell Academy)

-Brother of 2012 commit, Blake Bars. Alex is another very good prospect that seems like a sure get sooner or later.

14. OG: 4* Mason Cole, 6\’4\’\’ 260lbs. Tarpon Springs, FL (East Lake HS)

-Said that Michigan \”felt like home\” when he visited for the MSU game. Cole is one of the best offensive guards in the country and could be making a decision in the near future.

15. DT: 4* Bryan Mone, 6\’4\’\’ 316lbs. Salt Lake City, UT (Highland HS)

-Teammate of 2012 signee and FB, Sione Houma. Mone has been hearing about and from Michigan for awhile now. Could very well be the next commit for Hoke and staff.

16. DE/DT: 4* Malik McDowell, 6\’6\’\’ 300lbs. Detroit, MI (Loyola HS)

-Probably the #1 player in Michigan, #1 DE in the midwest and possibly one of the top 50 prospects in the country, McDowell is a must get for Hoke.

17. SSDE: 5* Da\’Shawn Hand, 6\’5\’\’ 250lbs. Woodbridge, VA (Woodbridge HS)

Highlights-The #1 overall player in the 2014 class according to just about every recruiting site, Hand is a freak athlete that is in the mold of the former #1 recruits, Jadaveon Clowney and Robert Nkemdiche. Michigan is in his top 5 and is really pushing to land a commitment.

18. WSDE: 3* Lawrence Marshall, 6\’3\’\’ 205lbs. Southfield, MI (Southfield HS)

-One of the top players in Michigan, Marshall is a very good athlete who landed his Michigan offer recently. I think he very well be a Blue lean and should have his ratings go up big when he gets to some camps.

19. OLB/DE: 3* Gelen Robinson, 6\’2\’\’ 230lbs. Saint John, IN (Lake Central HS)

-Brother of basketball star freshmen, Glen Robinson III, Gelen is an amazing athlete that could be used as a down lineman or in the OLB/Jake Ryan role.

Michigan\’s Chances: Good

20. LB: 4* LB Michael Ferns, 6\’3\’\’ 235lbs. St. Clairsville, OH (St. Clairsville HS)

Highlights– The first commit of the 2014 class, Ferns is a stud linebacker that could be an All-American in the Mattison/Hoke defense. Look for him to be a top 100 player and top 10 LB in the class.

Michigan\’s Chances: Committed.

21. LB: 4* Nyles Morgan, 6\’3\’\’ 220lbs. Crete, IL (Crete-Monee HS)

-Teammate of top 2013 Michigan target, WR LaQuon Treadwell, Morgan is a stud linebacker who has the body, skills, and athleticism to be a star.

22. CB: 4* Troy Vincent Jr, 5\’10\’\’ 175lbs. Baltimore, MD (Gilman HS)

-Teammates with 2013 commit, Henry Poggi, Vincent is a playmaking corner that can change the game quickly.

23. CB: 4* Parrker Westphal, 6\’0\’\’ 175lbs. Bolingbrook, IL (Bolingbook HS)

-Another player who the coaching staff seems to be targeting very heavily, Westphal has the perfect size and skill set to fit what Mattison wants in his corners.

24. S: 3* Montae Nicholson, 6\’3\’\’ 200lbs. Monroeville, PA (Gateway HS)

Montae Nicholson, S

-Michigan has had him on campus multiple times and he really seems to be growing a bond with the coaches. Nicholson is a playmaking safety that the staff seems to love.
