New Michigan Man: 2019 LB Charles Thomas Commits

In each and every class, coaching staffs want to get off to a fast start. Jim Harbaugh has had great success in recent years in doing so, and did it once again the 2019 class IMG Academy (FL) LB Charles Thomas has committed to Michigan.

Commitment

Scouting Report

Thomas is a big timer. He’s one of the most physically impressive recruits in the class and should only continue to grow into a freak athlete with time at IMG and in Ann Arbor. His athleticism, instincts and physical playing style should make him an early contributor, fan favorite, and future “Dude” for Don Brown’s defense throughout his collegiate career.

Overall, this is lightning bolt in the middle of the defense who is very strong at the point of attack. Thomas is already noticeably bigger from the spring, and certainly has all resources available to him by attending IMG. Recruitment

Though he’s one of the highest ranked linebackers in the country and right in out of the heart of SEC country, Michigan has long been the favorite for Thomas. He landed his offer from the staff back in May of 2016 and has been all about the Wolverines ever since. That included plenty of Michigan friendly tweets and mentions during interviews. And it was much more than hype.

Thomas visited Ann Arbor for the Elite camp in the Big House in late June and, according to Wolverine247’s Brandon Justice, the trip was more than just another recruiting trip for the talented linebacker, with a potential decision on his mind ($).

Thanks to a great visit and connecting even more with the coaching staff, Thomas committed to Michigan and became the first commitment of UM’s 2019 recruiting class.

Highlights/Interviews

As for the Rest of the Class

Thomas is the first commitment for the 2019 class that has the early looks of a potential super class. Though it won’t be a large class, the staff is in very good shape with more than a handful of top prospects. That includes OL Nolan Rumler, OLB Anthony Solomon, DL/OL Chris Hinton, DB Marvin Grant, RB Steele Chambers, OT Logan Brown,  DE Stephen Herron, LB Drake Thomas, RB Charles Mincy, WR Isaiah Williams, DT Jacob Lacey, CB/WR Julian Barnett, OT Trevor Keegan, OT Devontae Dobbs, S Litchfield Ajavon and RB Noah Cain. Michigan looks to be in, at least, the top three for all of those prospects.
