2016 Freshman Scouting Report: Elysee Mbem-Bosse

To kick off the official start to the 2016 Michigan football fall camp, we’ve broken down each incoming freshmen football signee. That includes their highlights, scouting report and our 2016 season prediction.

Elysee Mbem-Bosse, Ellenwood (GA) Cedar Grove

  • Position: Linebacker
  • Height/Weight: 6’3, 215 pounds
  • Commitment Date: January 25, 2016

Scouting Report: Mbem-Bosse has only played two years of football. At Cedar Grove, he was used all over the place; linebacker, running back, and tight end. At Michigan, he is ideal for an inside linebacker position with his run stopping ability. However, he has proven that he can drop back into coverage and has receiver-like hands. Mbem-Bosse hits like a safety and can cover like a corner. If Michigan is ever going to win hard-nosed gams in the trenches against Michigan State, Ohio State, and Wisconsin, it will start with hard hitting linebackers like Mbem-Bosse.

True Freshman Projection: Mbem-Bosse enters arguably the most interesting positional competition entering the 2016 season at linebacker. At MIKE backer, Ben Gedeon has the most experience, but has not been a true starter in four years with Mbem-Bosse joining Rueben Jones in competition. There is always the possibility that Mbem-Bosse is not fully mentally ready to play meaningful snaps and will redshirt, but physically he certainly is ready to play.
